Help Shape What’s Next for Lakeview East: CTA Opens RFPs for RPM Phase One Sites
After years of construction and a whole lot of patience, we’re officially entering the what’s next phase of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project.
As part of the RPM work, the Chicago Transit Authority temporarily acquired several properties along N. Clark Street to support track construction and staging. Now, with major work complete, the CTA is returning land that’s no longer needed for operations back into active use and inviting developers to help shape its future.
Through a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process, the CTA is seeking development ideas for surplus land in Lakeview East that align with the 2018 Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plans. These plans weren’t created in a vacuum. They were shaped by community input through public meetings and open houses in 2017–2018 and reflect shared goals for thoughtful, neighborhood-driven redevelopment.
What’s on the table
Three sites along N. Clark Street are included in this RFP process, with proposals expected to demonstrate how redevelopment can:
-
Support a vibrant, walkable commercial corridor
-
Reflect community priorities
-
Enhance accessibility for residents, businesses, and transit riders
In short: this is about building something that fits Lakeview East, not just filling space.
