About SSA #8

Lakeview East is the sole service provider for Special Service Area #8. The Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool that allows additional real estate property taxes to be levied to fund added services for a defined area. Committee Members: Co-Chair Paul Loaiza (Secretary) Bob Smith (Treasurer), Diane Tanios, Jake Elkins-Ryan; Sam Giarratano, Bill Shepard, and Tony Klok.

The services funded through the SSA #8 tax are in addition to services generally provided by the City. These services benefit those properties that are located within the boundaries of the SSA.

Lakeview East property and business owners will benefit from special services that will enhance the commercial district, retain and attract business and financially support small business.

SSA #8 Programs

Maintenance Program

Our SSA #8 maintenance crew works tirelessly seven days a week to keep our neighborhood clean and welcoming. They make sure the streets are regularly swept, graffiti is quickly taken care of, and they handle seasonal tasks like snow removal and street vacuuming. Their efforts go a long way in making sure our area looks great and feels safe. Thanks to their hard work, our community remains vibrant and inviting for everyone.

Commerical Corridor Security

Our commercial corridor safety patrols make sure our neighborhood stays safe and secure. They keep an eye on the area, address any issues that arise, work with the local 19th District Police Department to help aprehend suspects, and provide a reassuring presence for businesses and visitors alike. Their dedication helps create a sense of safety and community, allowing everyone to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our commercial corridors with peace of mind. Thanks to their efforts, our neighborhood continues to be a great place to live, work, and visit.

Neighborhood Landscaping and Beautification

Through SSA #8, we install and maintain beautiful planter boxes throughout the neighborhood. These vibrant additions enhance the aesthetic appeal of our streets, providing greenery and seasonal flowers that create a welcoming atmosphere. Our maintenance team ensures the planter boxes are well-kept and thriving year-round, contributing to the overall charm and attractiveness of Lakeview East. This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to beautify the area and make it a more enjoyable place for residents and visitors alike.

Lakeview East Gift Program

Our Gift Card Program supports local businesses and makes shopping in Lakeview East easy and convenient. These gift cards can be used at a 200+ participating businesses, from restaurants to retail stores, encouraging residents and visitors to explore and enjoy what our neighborhood has to offer. It’s a great way to support our local economy while giving the gift of choice. Every year, we circulate an extra $250,000+ dollars within our local community through this program!

Façade Improvement

Our Facade Improvement Program is designed to revitalize and enhance the look of commercial retail buildings within the Lake View East area. We provide financial and technical assistance to help business owners and tenants improve their storefronts. From Diversey to Grace and along major streets like Clark, Belmont, and Broadway, these improvements significantly boost the neighborhood’s appeal. With funding from SSA #8, our program supports projects that keep our commercial corridors looking fresh and inviting. Facade Brochure SSA8

Public Art Programs

Through SSA #8, we actively fund murals and community improvement projects to enhance the visual appeal and cultural richness of our neighborhood. These projects bring vibrant, meaningful art to our streets, reflecting the spirit and diversity of our community. By supporting public art, we aim to create a more engaging and attractive environment for residents, businesses, and visitors, fostering a sense of pride and connection within Lakeview East.

Through SSA #8, we host a variety of community programs and events that bring our neighborhood together. Our annual Festival of the Arts showcases local talent, providing a platform for artists to display their work and for visitors to enjoy a weekend of creativity. During the holiday season, our Holiday Tree Lighting event spreads festive cheer, creating memorable moments for families and friends. These events, along with other community initiatives, enrich the cultural fabric of Lakeview East and strengthen community bonds.

Vacancy Support

Our SSA #8 Vacancy Program, showcased on LeaseInLakeview.com, helps connect potential tenants with available commercial spaces in Lakeview East. The platform provides detailed listings, photos, and essential information about vacancies, making it easier for businesses to find the perfect location. By promoting these spaces, we aim to reduce vacancies and support the growth of our local economy. Our program also offers resources and guidance to property owners and prospective tenants, fostering a vibrant and fully-occupied commercial district.

Technical Support for Business Community

We provide essential technical support to the business community, helping them navigate city government and the permitting process. Our team offers guidance on obtaining necessary permits, understanding city regulations, and addressing compliance issues. By providing these resources, we aim to simplify the bureaucratic process, allowing businesses to focus on growth and success. This support ensures that local businesses have the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in Lakeview East.

Marketing and Promotions

We provide comprehensive marketing and promotional support to boost local businesses. Our efforts include social media campaigns, local niche publications, newsletters, and community events that increase visibility and engagement. We highlight businesses through featured spotlights and run targeted promotional campaigns to attract customers. Additionally, we offer personalized marketing consultations to develop effective strategies tailored to each business’s needs. These initiatives help create a thriving local economy and a vibrant commercial environment in Lakeview East.
