Our first stop is Banh Mi & Co, where Corey tried the Barbeque Pork Sandwich. Imagine a freshly baked baguette stuffed with tender barbeque pork, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, jalapeño, cucumber, soy sauce, black pepper, and mayo. Corey couldn’t stop raving about the fresh taste of the sandwich, especially the crisp vegetables and the flavorful meat. What stood out the most was the use of fresh jalapeños, which added a refreshing kick without overwhelming the flavors. Banh Mi & Co is conveniently located near The Annoyance Theater and Wrigley Field, making it the perfect spot for a quick and delicious meal before a night out. Plus, it’s BYOB – how cool is that?

No sandwich tour in Chicago would be complete without a visit to Al’s Beef. Corey opted for the Italian Beef dipped with hot peppers – a decision he described as essential for any first-timer. Despite usually steering clear of soggy bread, Corey makes an exception for Al’s Italian Beef. The way the bread soaks up the savory juices without falling apart is nothing short of magical. Corey likens it to the perfect addition of croutons in soup – it just works. Situated conveniently on the way to Wrigley Field, Al’s Beef is an ideal pre-game meal stop. This legendary spot is a rite of passage for anyone looking to dive into Chicago’s rich culinary traditions.

About Al’s Beef: Established in 1938, Al’s Beef is a Chicago institution renowned for its Italian Beef sandwiches. This family-owned restaurant has been serving up its iconic sandwiches for decades, making it a must-visit for anyone in the city.

Rounding out our sandwich adventure is Cheba Hut, where Corey sampled the Cali Mist sandwich. This quirky, cannabis-themed restaurant serves up a toasted garlic bread sandwich filled with roasted turkey breast, chipotle mayo, jalapeño, avocado, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and Shake & House dressing. Corey loved how the sandwich struck a balance between hearty and fresh – not too heavy, but packed with flavor. To top it off, he also tried the Hash Can from the bar, a potent cocktail with rum, tequila, gin, vodka, Blue Curacao, house-made sour mix, and a Redbull of your choice. Despite its strong ingredients, Corey found it surprisingly tasty. Cheba Hut’s playful theme and delicious food make it a unique spot that’s not to be missed.
