Memorial Day Weekend is the official kickstart to Summer! The Belmont Sheffield Music Festival is going to be a weekend highlight, but on actual Memorial Day (Monday, May 27th) the whole neighborhood is ready to party. See what’s going on for Memorial Day this year!

This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country with honor and courage. Your dedication and sacrifice ensure our freedom and safety. Thank you for your unwavering commitment and for protecting the values we hold dear. We honor and salute you today and always.

The WOOGMS Parade

What’s better than going to a Memorial Day parade? How about walking in one! WOOGMS Memorial Day Parade is Lakeview’s longest running tradition. Since 1963 this family and pet-friendly event has delighted the neighborhood, a parade where ‘Everybody Marches and Nobody Watches.’ Bring your strollers and scooters and join the Jesse White Drum Corps on a fun march around the neighborhood. Watch the fabulous tumblers perform at the end of the parade. This year enter a raffle to win an official parade T-Shirt signed by Jesse himself! WOOGMS stands for the Wellington Oakdale Old Glory Marching Society. The parade kicks off at 11 am at Wellington and Oakdale! Happy marching!

Picnic Plans

Let’s get outside! A great Memorial Day tradition is to have a picnic right along scenic lake Michigan. Lakeview East is home to both The Belmont Harbor and The Chicago AIDS garden, both place that are great for setting out a blanket and basket of goodies. Bring the kids to watch the boats come and go at Belmont Harbor, a great spot where ducks and geese often hangout! The Chicago AIDS Garden has plenty of benches, as well as a great view of the city skyline. Pack your basket and head the shoreline!

Don’t feel like cooking on your Monday off work? Fill your basket with goodies from the neighborhood! Grab lunch from The Bagel, Bonci Pizza, Bombay Wraps, Sila’s Mediterranean, Brazilian Bowl, or any of the other dozen restaurants you’ll pass on your walk to the lake. Grab a bottle from BottlesUp, and pastries from Maison Marcel! Sounds like a perfect day to us.
