“Strings Ramen, a popular spot in Chinatown, has opened it’s second location in Lakeview. The new location at 919 W. Belmont, quietly opened it’s doors on June 30th. The Lakeview spot is a mere 38 seat, considerably smaller than the original location’s 60 seats. Still, the new Strings will offer most of the brand’s signature menu items and a few dishes exclusive to the Belmont Avenue location, including several varieties of sunomono (pickled salad with and without proteins) and guydon (beef bowl). Executive Chef Katie Dong oversees both restaurants.

Those with an iron gut will be happy to know that the restaurant’s “Monster Hell Challenge” will be available in Lakeview as well. Finish a perilously spicy ramen bowl made with four types of chilies and two types of peppers in 20 minutes to earn a $50 gift certificate and a T-shirt (and the ramen is free).

In String Ramen’s three years in Chinatown, only eight customers have succeeded at the Monster Hell Challenge.

Strings Ramen-Lakeview is open 4 – 11pm daily. BYOB; no reservations.”
