This Sunday, October 12th, Lakeview East will come alive with the energy and excitement of the Chicago Marathon! Thousands of runners will be pounding the pavement through our streets, and whether you’re cheering from the sidelines or planning your day around the event, here’s what you need to know to stay in the loop.

Street Closures & When They’ll Reopen:

Starting at 7 a.m., a number of streets in our neighborhood will be closed off for the race. Here’s a quick look at the closures and when they’re expected to open back up:

  • Cannon Dr. (Fullerton to Sheridan):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 11:45 a.m.
  • Sheridan Rd. (Diversey to Belmont):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 11:45 a.m.
Sheridan will be buzzing with spectators, so if you plan to watch the runners here, get your spot early!
  • Inner Lake Shore Dr. (Belmont to Sheridan):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:00 p.m.
This stretch offers gorgeous views and is always a lively spot for both runners and spectators.
  • Sheridan Rd. (Inner Lake Shore Dr. to Broadway):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:00 p.m.
  • Broadway (Sheridan to Briar Pl.):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:15 p.m.
Broadway will be packed with people, and Mile 8 is a key spot for catching all the marathon action. It’s one of the most exciting stretches of the course!
  • Broadway (Briar Pl. to Diversey):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:30 p.m.
  • Clark St. (Diversey to Fullerton):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:30 p.m.
  • Clark St. (Fullerton to Webster):
    Closed: 7 a.m. – Reopens: 12:45 p.m.
Clark Street will see the last of the runners pass through by this time, but keep in mind the reopening may take a little longer depending on the flow of the race.

Once the runners have passed through, streets will reopen in stages. By 12:45 p.m., everything should be back to normal, though it could be a bit earlier in some areas.

Heads Up: No Parking on the Route!

If you’re parking in the area, make sure your car is off the Marathon route by 1 a.m. on Sunday, October 12th, or it will be towed. If your vehicle is towed, you can call 312.744.4444 for help locating it. No one wants to deal with a ticket or a towed car on Marathon day!

Where to Watch in Lakeview East:

How To Get To The Route:

  • Sheridan Red Line Station (Mile 8):
Take the Red Line to Sheridan and walk four blocks east to Broadway. You’ll be right at Mile 8, where the runners are still in great spirits and the energy is high.
