A Sweet 40 Years
The beloved Broadway candy shop Windy City Sweets (3308 N Broadway) is celebrating their 40th Anniversary this month!
They’ve been serving the community some of the best gourmet chocolates and candies in Chicago for four decades. Find out everything this sweet shop has to offer, and learn about the candy man himself!
Windy City Sweets is a chocolate covered community staple. In 1983, Jerry Sherwood opened the doors, and in 2011 John Manchester and his wife Jill took over. Upon walking in the doors, you are transported in a nostalgic candy land that makes you feel… well, like a kid in a candy store! There’s a wall of Jelly Bellies, jars of sours & gummies galore, and counters full of freshly dipped chocolate goods. They sell all the classics, and always have a creative seasonal goodie on deck.

John and Jill have been candy obsessed for as long as they can remember. Jill has been involved in the candy industry for over three decades now, and John was born with a sweet tooth (or two). Staying authentic and true to the brand is really important to the Manchester’s. Every week, they hand make the signature chocolate blends on site, and they purchase only the finest gummies and sours on the market. It takes only one look at their main chocolate counter to tell that there is a lot of time, effort, and love put into each sweet.

Fan of fudge? Of course you are! Windy City Sweets has a homemade fudge counter, that is worth breaking your diet for. When we stopped in, they had vanilla, maple nut, chocolate, peanut butter, and peanut butter chocolate, and Heath! There’s always a rotating variety, so you can look forward to trying something new every time you stop in.
No sweet shop is complete without a good old fashioned ice cream counter. Choose your cone, size, and any of their glorious flavors! All the ice cream is brought from small batch dairies in Wisconsin and Michigan. Again, no corners are never cut on this candy street.
Windy City Sweets also has a great licorice counter. Don’t get it twisted, all the licorice is imported from Europe, with Denmark being a main supplier.

If you’re hosting a party, gathering, or looking for a personalized giftbox, Windy City Sweets caters to all your needs. While there, we we’re told about all the extravagant events they provided goodies and candies for. They are able to match wedding colors to a T, can personalize jars with your name or company logo on it, and can come up with creative sweets for any event! It was refreshing to see a business care so much about the customers satisfaction. John and his team have one goal in mind: to make everyone happy. That’s easy to do when you own one of the best candy shops in Chicago! Consider ditching the big chains next time you’re booking an event, and put your trust into the wonderful people behind the counter of Windy City Sweets. Oh, and they also ship nationwide!

John’s current favorites at the shop right now are dark chocolate covered almonds, and milk chocolate covered gummy bears! It’s hard to choose just one when there’s 1,000 options. It’s important to note that they offer vegan goods, gluten free goods, and even some sugar free goodies!
Windy City Sweets is open 7 days a week, from 11 am to 7 pm. They have gourmet chocolate bunnies and eggs for Easter! Come satisfy your cravings and see for yourself everything this sweet shop has to offer.
