About Special Service Area #17

Special Service Area #17

As of January 1, 2017, Lakeview East is the sole service provider for Special Service Area #17. The Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool that allows additional real estate property taxes to be levied to fund added services for a defined area.

The services funded through the SSA #17 tax are in addition to services generally provided by the City. These services benefit those properties that are located within the boundaries of the SSA.

Central Lakeview property and business owners benefit from special services that enhance the commercial district, retain and attract business and financially support small business.

SSA #17 Programs

Maintenance Program

Our SSA #17 maintenance crew works tirelessly seven days a week to keep the Wrigleyville area clean and welcoming. They ensure the streets are regularly swept, graffiti is promptly removed, and handle seasonal tasks like snow removal and street vacuuming. Their efforts significantly contribute to the area’s aesthetic appeal and safety. Thanks to their hard work, Wrigleyville remains vibrant and inviting for everyone.

Commerical Corridor Security

Our SSA #17 commercial corridor safety patrols ensure the Wrigleyville area stays safe and secure. They monitor the streets, address issues, and collaborate with the local 19th District Police Department to apprehend suspects, providing a reassuring presence for businesses and visitors alike. Their dedication fosters a sense of safety and community, allowing everyone to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our commercial corridors with peace of mind. Thanks to their efforts, our neighborhood continues to be a great place to live, work, and visit.

Neighborhood Landscaping and Beautification

SSA #17 funds the installation and maintenance of beautiful planter boxes throughout Wrigleyville. These planters, filled with greenery and seasonal flowers, enhance our streets’ appeal. Our maintenance team ensures they stay vibrant year-round, adding charm and making the neighborhood more enjoyable for everyone.

Gift Card Program

Our Gift Card Program supports Wrigleyville businesses and makes shopping easy. These gift cards can be used at over 200 local businesses, from restaurants to shops, encouraging exploration and supporting our local economy. Annually, the program injects an extra $250,000+ into our community.

Facade Improvement

The SSA #17 Facade Improvement Program revitalizes Wrigleyville’s commercial buildings. We offer financial and technical help for storefront improvements, enhancing the area’s appeal. From Diversey to Grace and along key streets like Clark and Belmont, these projects keep our commercial corridors fresh and inviting.

Property and business owners receive 60% rebates for improvements to storefront facades.

Public Art Programs

SSA #17 funds murals and community improvement projects to enrich Wrigleyville’s visual appeal and cultural vibrancy. These projects bring colorful, meaningful art to our streets, reflecting our community’s spirit and diversity, and fostering a sense of pride and connection.

Community Event Programming

Through SSA #17, we host a variety of community programs and events that bring our neighborhood together. Our annual Belmont Sheffield Music Festival showcases local talent and large name music acts as the kick off to Chicago summer. During the holiday season, our Wrigleyville Wonderland Pop Up District spreads festive cheer, creating memorable moments for families and friends. These events, along with other community initiatives, keep Wrigleyville a fun and safe destination year round

Vacancy Support

Our SSA #17 Vacancy Program, showcased on LeaseInLakeview.com, helps connect potential tenants with available commercial spaces in Lakeview East. The platform provides detailed listings, photos, and essential information about vacancies, making it easier for businesses to find the perfect location. By promoting these spaces, we aim to reduce vacancies and support the growth of our local economy. Our program also offers resources and guidance to property owners and prospective tenants, fostering a vibrant and fully-occupied commercial district.

Technical Support for Business Community

We provide essential technical support to the business community, helping them navigate city government and the permitting process. Our team offers guidance on obtaining necessary permits, understanding city regulations, and addressing compliance issues. By providing these resources, we simplify the bureaucratic process, allowing businesses to focus on growth and success. This support helps local businesses have the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in Lakeview East & Wrigleyville

Neighborhood Powerwashing

Being a tourism destination within a local neighborhood, SSA #17 takes pride in funding neighborhood powerwashing to help keep the right of way clean and sparkling. While the high traffic of Cubs games and regular commuting can dirty our sidewalks, this intiative makes sure our neighborhod remains cleanly and tidy.

Marketing and Promotions

SSA #17 offers marketing and promotional support to boost local businesses. Through social media, newsletters, and community events, we increase visibility and engagement. We also provide personalized marketing consultations to develop effective strategies, helping businesses thrive in Wrigleyville.
